Natural Finishes
Beautifully Handcrafted & Naturally Hand Finished
Each board is chosen for it's unique character and used appropriately.
Then cleaned and sanded for smoothness yet leaving the "history" intact.
Our In house finishes are not "one type fits all". They too are hand made, adapted and applied according their end use. This includes oils, shellacs, varnishes and pigmented waxes. Handmade American milk paint remains our #1 choice for painted surfaces. Nothing else replicates the unusual pigments and feel of the original paint recipes mixed 200 years ago. Please do not confuse this with chalk paint..there is no comparison. We are professionals and prefer the authentic quality of original MILKPAINT.(read more here) Our time taken now insures our pieces a natural durability and long life. This is a multi-step process as we renourish the older boards and replenish the natural oils, one layer at a time. Some of the traditional methods are still the best.
NO WE DO NO USE TUNG OIL. Many people have nut allergies and are very sensitive to this Asian Nut oil. We don't like it for a furniture finish, we prefer our own tried and true methods. We quite experienced in this area . We've been restoring period antiques for over 30 years.
WE also don't like the lingering smell of tung oil and we prefer to buy American products. Our pieces are then hand waxed the old fashioned way to show off the beautiful natural patina of aged 200 year old wood..it gives the tabletop that extra protection. Our waxes are imported from England because we feel they still make the best. The furniture is left with a warm glow. Our finishes still look great a decade later and our customers often comment how well they have held up. Family friendly & eco-friendly. We just a little bit better at this..
